Westminster Guild
November 2008
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for man.”
Colossians 3:23
The Guild would like to thank Rev. Chips for introducing our study book for this year. We will be studying, “Jubilee! Luke’s Gospel for the Poor.” Thursday, October 16th, Sarah Becklund led our first lesson in the book. The second lesson will be Thursday, November 6th, led by Pearl Copp. We will have a lesson each meeting instead of a work day until we get caught up with the book.
To keep you informed where our money is being dispensed. Last meeting we voted to give $200.00 to Kids Against Hunger, also $200.00 to Hope Lodge in Marshfield, WI. Hope Lodge is sponsored by the American Cancer Society. There are facilities across the country. We sent our money to the one in Marshfield since Jean Rein and I have stayed there when our husbands were receiving treatments at the hospital. When a member of your family is sent to Marshfield for surgery or treatment, the director of Hope Lodge contacts you to let you know there will be a room for you at Hope Lodge free of charge. I can’t begin to tell you what a wonderful service this is.
At our meeting on October 16th, after the lesson we voted to give $100.00 to the Mission Committee to make up the money they need to give to the three abuse centers in our area.
Our election was held to elect the officers for the next 2 years. They will take over in January 2009. They are as follows: Moderator - Eula Bender, Vice Moderator - Jean Rein, Treasurer - Helyn Woolf, Secretary - Aggie Ripley, Sunshine - Gretchen Stonecipher and also Carol Bohlin has accepted the position of Chairperson for Bazaar 2009. This is such a big job and we take it one year at a time. Carol has had the job for two years now and does a great job. Thank you Carol. I also want to thank Mid Sharpe for her many years as our treasurer. How many years has it been? Another thank you to our winter Secretary Rosemary Rennhack and Summer Ann Jacabucci. They have served more than one term also. Thank all of you.
Don’t forget Thursday, November 6th, 10:00 a.m. will be our second lesson. All women are welcome. If you don’t have a study book we will share.
Now on a sad note – by the time you recive this letter most of our summer members will be back at their winter homes. We will miss you, but we can look forward to your return next summer. We pray you all have a good winter.
Respectfully submitted, Eula Bender

From the 2007 Annual Report:
Our GUILD meets twice a month. The first Thursday is our Bible Study and business meeting. The third Thursday is a work day. Soon we will begin getting ready for our Bazaar which is part of Fleazaar. This is an important undertaking as it is our biggest fund raiser.
We have two projects through out the year. One is “The Greater Gift,” which is selling unique gifts hand crafted by women in poorer parts of the world, enabling them to have a better life. The second is “Equal Exchange Coffee” which we sell at no profit for us. The sales of this coffee helps the small farmers to form a partnership without being forced to sell their coffee to large corporations at a lower price. Carol Bohlin has taken on the responsibility for ordering and keeping on hand a good supply of coffee and gifts.
Another function is serving the Easter Brunch. The GUILD prepares and serves the food. Madams & Sirs pays the cost of the food.
Following a funeral or memorial service the GUILD serves a lunch or just coffee and dessert which ever the family wishes. If there is a funeral in the winter when our summer members are not with us, we ask for help from the congregation. We appreciate the good response we receive. This year we served four lunches.
Each year the GUILD organizes Women’s Sunday. This year it was held on Mother’s Day. It is the Sunday when the women of the church are responsible for the Sunday worship service. We try to involve as many women as we can from the congregation.
We try to keep the kitchen supplied with coffee, sugar and creamer for the Sunday coffee hour. Jean Eales and Bobbie Behnke purchase theses supplies plus all the paper goods that are needed. The GUILD tries to keep the kitchen neat and orderly.
Two members attended the Presbyterian Women’s Annual Meeting in Cloquet, MN. Seven of us were able to attend the Cluster Meeting in Hurley, WI.
We believe we are making a contribution to the ministry of the church.
